Ami Bera

Amerish Babulal Ami Bera is an IndianAmerican physician who has been the U.S. Representative for Californias 7th congressional district since 2013. He is a member of the Democratic Party. Bera won reelection in 2014 despite a very competitive race. Bera is currently the only Indian American serving in the United States Congress and the only Unitarian Universalist in Congress.

Beras father, Babulal Bera immigrated to the United States from Rajkot in 1958. Two years later, Babulal Bera was joined by his wife, Kanta. He was born in Los Angeles and raised in the neighboring Orange County city of La Palma.
