J. K. Rowling

Joanne Jo Rowling, OBE FRSL , pen names J. K. Rowling and Robert Galbraith, is a British novelist, screenwriter and film producer best known as the author of the Harry Potter fantasy series. The books have gained worldwide attention, won multiple awards, and sold more than 400160million copies. They have become the bestselling book series in history and been the basis for a series of films which is the second highestgrossing film series in history. Rowling had overall approval on the scripts and maintained creative control by serving as a producer on the final instalment.

Rowling was born to Peter James Rowling, a RollsRoyce aircraft engineer, and Anne Rowling , a science technician, onJuly 1965 in Yate, Gloucestershire, England,miles northeast of Bristol. Her parents first met on a train departing from Kings Cross Station bound for Arbroath in 1964. They married onMarch 1965. One of her maternal greatgrandfathers, Dugald Campbell, was Scottish, born in Lamlash on the Isle of Arran. Her mothers paternal grandfather, Louis Volant, was French, and was awarded the Croix de Guerre for exceptional bravery in defending the village of CourcellesleComte during the First World War. Rowling originally believed he had won the Lgion dhonneur during the war, as she said when she received it herself in 2009.
