Lisa Carprini Sthalekar is an Indianborn former female Australian international cricketer. In domestic cricket she represents New South Wales. She is a righthanded all rounder who bowls off spin, and was rated as the leading all rounder in the world when rankings were introduced. She is the first woman to score 1,000 runs and take 100 wickets in ODIs. She announced her retirement from international Cricket a day after Australian team won the 2013 Womens Cricket World Cup.

Sthalekar was born in the city of Pune in the western Indian state of Maharashtra. Her biological parents werent able to support her so she was shifted to Shreevatsa, an orphanage attached to Punes Sassoon Hospital she was called Laila then. Haren and Syu Sthalekar were a couple who lived in Michigan, USA. Haren was born to Indian and Syu to English parents. They had a daughter and were in India looking to adopt a boy to complete the family. The Sthalekars visited Shreevatsa seeking to adopt a male child there. They didnt find anyone appropriate and were about to leave the premises. Just then it was suggested that they consider taking Laila out on loan as she needed intensive family care and would die without it. The Sthalekars consented to keep Laila for a while. However once Laila settled with them, they couldnt bring themselves to drop her back at the orphanage and thus decided to adopt her. They thus completed the necessary legal formalities and renamed Laila as Lisa. The Sthalekar
