Albert Henderson Pattengill was an American professor of Greek. Foryears, Pattengill was also a leader in athletics at the University of Michigan. He played on Michigans 1867 baseball team and was part of a threeperson committee that selected azureblue and maize as the universitys colors. He was also one of the leaders behind the formation and early development of the Big Ten Conference.
Pattengill was born in 1842 on a farm near New Lisbon, New York, the son of John Scott Pattengill and Abigail Maria Pattengill. He entered the sophomore class at the University of Michigan in 1865 and received a bachelors degree in 1868 and a masters degree in 1871. He served as the principal at Ann Arbor High School for a year after receiving his bachelors degree.
