Alexander Mackenzie (civil servant)


Sir Alexander Mackenzie, KCSI served as Chief Commissioner of the British Crown Colony of Burma from December 1890 to April 1895.

Alexander Mackenzie was born on Dumfries, Scotland and moved to Birmingham with his father Reverend John R. Mackenzie and Alexanderina Mackenzie. He attended King Edwards School and Trinity College, Cambridge. Upon obtaining his BA and completion of his Indian Civil Service exans, Mackenzie went to Calcutta in 1862 and later became the Lieutenantgovernor of Bengal.
