Allyn Ann McLerie is a Canadianborn, Brooklynreared actress, singer, and dancer who worked with many GoldenAge musical theatres major choreographers, including George Balanchine, Agnes de Mille, and Jerome Robbins.
McLerie was born in GrandMre, Quebec, Canada, the daughter of Vera Alma MacTaggart and Allan Gordon McLerie, an aviator. She moved with her family to the United States at age one. She studied dancing at a studio in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, and made her Broadway debut as a teenager in Kurt Weills One Touch of Venus.
