Andr%C3%A9s Quintana Roo


Andrs Eligio Quintana Roo was a Mexican liberal politician, lawyer and author, and the husband of Leona Vicario. Quintana Roo was one of the most influential men in the Mexican War of Independence and served as a member of the Congress of Chilpancingo. He presided over the Constitutional Assembly, which drafted the Mexican Declaration of Independence in 1813, and he served as a legislator and senator, and Secretary of State, numerous times. Quintana Roo also served as a member of the Mexican Supreme Court and as a member of the Gobierno tripartito , and edited and managed the Semanario Patritico . The Mexican state of Quintana Roo was named after him.

Quintana Roo was born to Don Jos Matas Quintana and Doa Mara Ana Roo de Quintana. He studied in the Seminario de San Ildefonso de Mrida where he proved his great capacity as a writer in 1808, he continued his studies in Mexico City, at the Real y Pontificia Universidad de Nueva Espaa .
