Benazir Bhutto


Benazir Bhutto was the 11th and 13th Prime Minister of Pakistan, serving two nonconsecutive terms in 198890 and then 199396. A scion of the politically powerful Bhutto family, she was the eldest daughter of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, a former prime minister who founded the centreleft Pakistan Peoples Party . She was the first woman to become a democratically elected head of any Muslim nation in the world.

Benazir Bhutto was born at Karachis Pinto Hospital onJune 1953. She was the eldest child of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, of Sindhi Rajput ethnicity, and Begum Nusrat Ispahani, of Iranian Kurdish descent. She had three younger siblingsMurtaza, Shahnawaz and Sanam. According to Benazir her mothers Kurdish culture played a big role in Bhutto becoming Prime Minister.
