David Schwarz (aviation inventor)

David Schwarz was a HungarianCroatian aviation pioneer of Jewish descent. He is known for creating the first airship with an external hull made entirely of metal, but he died before it was flown. Some sources have claimed that Count Ferdinand Graf von Zeppelin purchased Schwarzs airship patent from his widow, a claim which has been disputed. He was the father of the opera and operetta soprano Vera Schwarz .

David Schwarz was born in Keszthely, Kingdom of Hungary, the son of Jewish parents. He was a timber merchant raised in upanja, but he spent most of his life in Zagreb, then part of the AustroHungarian Empire.
