Dwight Watson (American football)


Dwight Grant Watson was an American football player and coach. He was the head football coach at Michigan State Normal College during the 1899 college football season. He was also involved in the telephone industry in its early years, serving as manager of the Michigan Telephone Company in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and as the general manager of the Van Buren County Telephone Company in the years prior to his death.

Watson was born in 1873 in Geneva Township, Van Buren County, Michigan. His father, Jerome Watson, was a farmer. At the time of the 1880 U.S. Census, he was the seventh of nine children ranging from ageto age 26. He became a school teacher, and as of 1894, he was teaching elementary school in Lacota, Michigan.
