Edward S. Salomon
Edward Selig Salomon was a German Jew who immigrated to the United States and served as an Union brigadier general in the American Civil War and later became governor of Washington Territory and a California legislator.
Salomon, who was Jewish, was born in the Duchy of Schleswig. He emigrated to Illinois in 1856 andyears later, at age 24, was elected an alderman of Chicagos sixth ward in 1861, the youngest in Chicago history.
