Ellis H. Roberts
Ellis Henry Roberts was a United States Representative from New York and 20th Treasurer of the United States.
Roberts was born in Utica, Oneida County, New York on September 30, 1827. He attended the common schools and the Whitestown Seminary and graduated from Yale College in 1850, where he was a member of the Alpha Delta Phi and Skull and Bones.270 He served as principal of Utica Free Academy in 1850 and 1851 and became editor and proprietor of the Utica Morning Herald 1851 1889. He was a delegate to the Republican National Conventions in 1864, 1868, and 1876 and a member of the New York State Assembly in 1867.
