Frederic William Farrar was a cleric of the Church of England , schoolteacher and author. He was a pallbearer at the funeral of Charles Darwin in 1882. He was a member of the Cambridge Apostles secret society.
Farrar was born in Bombay, India, and educated at King Williams College on the Isle of Man, Kings College London and Trinity College, Cambridge. At Cambridge he won the Chancellors Gold Medal for poetry in 1852. He was for some years a master at Harrow School and, from 1871 to 1876, the headmaster of Marlborough College.
