Gideon Sprague Ives was an American politician who served as Mayor of St. Peter, Minnesota, Minnesota State Senator and as the 11th Lieutenant Governor of Minnesota.
Ives was born in Dickinson, New York in 1846. His parents Warren and Elizabeth Ives were descendants of early American settlers with roots going as far back as the 1630s. Ives later moved to Potsdam, New York and, in 1864, enlisted in the 50th New York Volunteer Infantry Regiment taking part in the American Civil War. He was later transferred to the 15th New York Volunteer Infantry Regiment and was discharged from service in June 1865.
