Hallam Tennyson, 2nd Baron Tennyson GCMG, PC was a British peer and the second GovernorGeneral of Australia. He was the elder son of Alfred, Lord Tennyson, the most popular and prominent poet of late Victorian England, and was named after his fathers late friend Arthur Hallam.
Hallam Tennyson was born at Chapel House, Twickenham, in Surrey, England, and educated at Marlborough College and Trinity College, Cambridge. His career aspirations ended when his parents age and illhealth obliged him to leave Cambridge to become their personal secretary. The idea of going into politics was also abandoned.
