Herbert James Haddock, CB RNR was an English naval reserve officer and ships captain, and was captain of the RMS Olympic at the time of the sinking of the Titanic. He was the first person to captain Titanic, overseeing the ship at Belfast while her deliverytrip crew was assembling there fromtoMarch 1912.
Haddock was born to Herbert James Haddock in Rugby, Warwickshire onJanuary 1861. Before working for the White Star Line, Haddock was a lieutenant with the Royal Navy aboard HMS Edinburgh. In 1902, Haddock was appointed a Companion of the Order of the Bath. He was later aide de camp to British royalty.
