Hobart

Hobart is the capital and most populous city of the Australian island state of Tasmania. Founded in 1803 as a penal colony, Hobart is Australias second oldest capital city after Sydney, New South Wales. The city is located in the states southeast on the estuary of the Derwent River, making it the most southern of Australias capital cities. Its harbour forms the seconddeepest natural port in the world.

At the 2011 census there were 211,656 people in the greater Hobart area and the City of Hobart local government area had a population of 48,703. According to the 2011 census, approximately 17.9 of greater Hobarts residents were born overseas, commonly the United Kingdom, New Zealand and China.
