Lawrence Yates Sherman
Lawrence Yates Sherman was a Republican politician from the State of Illinois. He served as United States Senator, the 28th Lieutenant Governor, and as Speaker of the Illinois House of Representatives.
Sherman was born near Piqua in Miami County, Ohio on November 8, 1858 to Nelson Sherman and Maria Sherman. A year later, he moved with his parents to McDonough County, Illinois and eight years later, they moved to Grove Township in Jasper County, Illinois.
