Nuremberg

Nuremberg is a city on the river Pegnitz and the RhineMainDanube Canal in the German state of Bavaria, in the administrative region of Middle Franconia, about 170 kilometres north of Munich. It is the secondlargest city in Bavaria , and the largest in Franconia . The population as of February 2015, is 517,498, which makes it Germanys fourteenthlargest city. The urban area also includes Frth, Erlangen and Schwabach with a total population of 763,854. The European Metropolitan Area Nuremberg has ca. 3.5 million inhabitants.

Composed of prosperous artisans, the guilds of the Meistersingers flourished here. Richard Wagner made their most famous member, Hans Sachs, the hero of his opera Die Meistersinger von Nrnberg. Baroque composer Johann Pachelbel was born here and was organist of St. Sebaldus Church.
