Orpheus S. Woodward


Orpheus Saeger Woodward was an American Union brevet brigadier general during the period of the American Civil War. Before the war, he was a teacher from northwestern Pennsylvania. He was part of the 83rd Pennsylvania Infantry. Woodward served in the Antietam Campaign and fought at the Battle of Chancellorsville and at Little Round Top in the Battle of Gettysburg after which he was promoted to colonel. He was later wounded at Malvern Hill and in the Wilderness which caused him to have his leg amputated. He received his appointment as brevet brigadier general dated to March 13, 1865.
