Peter David Drysdale AO is Emeritus Professor of Economics and Visiting Fellow in the Crawford School of Economics and Government in the College of Asia and the Pacific at The Australian National University. Until 2002, he was Executive Director of the AustraliaJapan Research Centre .
Drysdale was born in Grafton, New South Wales and graduated from Armidale High School in 1955. He attended the University of New England where he completed a BA majoring in economics and taught for two years. He was brought by Sir John Crawford to the Australian National University where he received his PhD in 1967 under the supervision of Max Cordon. In 1978, he went to Yale as Fulbright ScholarinResidence.
