Pattabhirami Reddy Tikkavarapu


Pattabhirama Reddy Tikkavarapu, was an Indian film screenwriter, film producer, director and poet known for his pioneering works in Telugu and Kannada parallel cinema. He has garnered four National Film Awards. He produced and directed Samskara which garnered the National Film Award for Best Feature Film and Bronze Leopard at Locarno International Film Festival .

He was born in Nellore, Andhra Pradesh. He studied at Shantiniketan, Calcutta University and Columbia University. He has actively participated in the Emergency opposition movement, human rights movement, and child labour movements as founder member of Peoples Union for Civil Liberties. He was married to Snehalata Reddy, who was jailed and tortured for being in touch with George Fernandes. He also founded the organisation Concerned for Working Children . Pattabhi Rami Reddy died onMay 2006, at the age of 92.
