Alenka Bratuek is a Slovenian public servant. She was Prime Minister of Slovenia from March 2013 until May 2014, the first woman in Slovenia to hold this position. She was president pro tempore of the Positive Slovenia party from January 2013 until April 2014. OnMay 2014, Bratuek submitted her resignation as Prime Minister.
Bratuek was born in Celje. She studied at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technology at the University of Ljubljana. Continuing her studies at the university of Ljubljana, she went on to obtain a masters degree in management at the Faculty for Social Sciences. Before entering politics, she served for six years as head of the Directorate for the State Budget at the Ministry of Finance.
