Alexandre P%C3%A9tion
Alexandre Sabs Ption was the first President of the Republic of Haiti from 1806 until his death in 1818. He is one of Haitis founding fathers, together with Toussaint Louverture, JeanJacques Dessalines, and his rival Henri Christophe.
Ption was born Anne Alexandre Sabs in PortauPrince to Pascal Sabs, a wealthy French father and Ursula, a free mulatto woman, which made him a quadroon . Like other gens de couleur libres with wealthy fathers, Ption was sent to France in 1788 to be educated and study at the Military Academy in Paris.
