Benjamin Smith (North Carolina)

Benjamin Smith was the 16th Governor of the U.S. state of North Carolina from 1810 to 1811.

Smith was born in Charles Town, South Carolina into a socially prominent family, later moving to Brunswick County, North Carolina. During the American Revolutionary War, Smith served an aidedecamp to General George Washington and rose to the rank of colonel in the Continental Army.
