Cajem Kaheeme , born Jos Mara Bonifacio Leiva Peres was a prominent Yaqui military leader who lived in the Mexican state of Sonora from 1835 to 1887.

Jos Mara Bonifacio Leiva Perez was born on May 14, 1835, at Pesiou , Sonora, also known as Villa de Pitic , and currently called Hermosillo, in honor of Jos Mara Gonzlez de Hermosillo, a hero of the insurgency in the war of Mexican independence against Spain. Cajems foremost biographer, Ramn Corral, stated that Cajem was born in 1837 , and this date has been used by other writers since then. However, the baptismal record shows that this was incorrect , and that Cajem was born two years earlier. Ramn Corrals initial newspaper article appeared in Sonoras official state newspaper, La Constitucin . In the article, Jos Mara Leivas father is identified as Fernando Leiva , and his mother as Juana Mara Peres , facts supported by the baptismal record. However, in the biography of Cajem later published by Corral , Corral calls Joss father Francisco, and this name has mistakenly continued to be used for Joss father since then.
