Curt von Fran%C3%A7ois


Curt Karl Bruno von Franois was a Schutztruppe officer and commissioner in the early days of German colonialism in German SouthWest Africa . He is also remembered as the founder of the presentday City of Windhoek.

Franois was born in Luxembourg of French Huguenot ancestry, the son of Prussian general Bruno von Franois. Curts younger brother Hermann von Franois served as a general in World War I and was one of the key contributors to the German victory at the 1914 Battle of Tannenberg. The writer Louise von Franois was his aunt.
