David Copeland is a British NeoNazi militant who became known as the London Nail Bomber after a 13day bombing campaign in April 1999 aimed at Londons black, South Asian and gay communities that resulted in three people killed and more than a hundred injured. Widely labelled a terrorist, Copeland was a former member of two farright political groups, the British National Party and then the National Socialist Movement.
Copeland was born in Isleworth, in the London Borough of Hounslow. His father was an engineer and his mother was a housewife. He lived for most of his childhood with his parents and two brothers in Yateley, Hampshire, attending Yateley School, where he obtained seven GCSEs before leaving in 1992. British journalist Nick Ryan writes that, as a teenager, Copeland feared he was homosexual when his parents sang along to the Flintstones theme on televisionwell have a gay old timehe reportedly believed they were sending him a message.
