Francis M. Cunningham


First Sergeant Francis M. Cunningham was an American soldier who fought in the American Civil War. Cunningham received the countrys highest award for bravery during combat, the Medal of Honor, for his action during the Battle of Saylers Creek in Virginia onApril 1865. He was honored with the award onMay 1865.

Cunningham was born in Somerset, Pennsylvania onDecember 1837. He enlisted into the 1st West Virginia Cavalry at Springfield, Pennsylvania. He died onMay 1919 and his remains are interred at the Sugar Grove Cemetery in Pennsylvania.
