Franz Schlieper
Franz Schlieper was a highly decorated Generalmajor in the Wehrmacht during World War II. He was also a recipient of the Knights Cross of the Iron Cross. The Knights Cross of the Iron Cross was awarded to recognise extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership. Franz Schlieper was captured by Soviet forces in May 1945 and was held until 1955. His older brother, Fritz Schlieper was awarded the Knights Cross of the Iron Cross onDecember 1941 for his performance in commanding the 45. InfanterieDivision.
