Gnther Gumprich was a Kapitn zur See of Nazi Germanys Kriegsmarine who, during World War II, commanded a merchant raider. He was also a recipient of the Knights Cross of the Iron Cross. The Knights Cross of the Iron Cross was awarded to recognise extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership.
