Genesis P Orridge


Genesis Breyer POrridge is an English singersongwriter, musician, poet, performance artist, and occultist. After rising to notability as the founder of the COUM Transmissions artistic collective and then fronting the industrial band Throbbing Gristle, POrridge was a founding member of Thee Temple ov Psychick Youth occult group, and fronted the experimental band Psychic TV. She identifies as third gender.

Genesis POrridge was born Neil Andrew Megson onFebruary 1950 in Victoria Park, Longsight, part of the northern English city of Manchester. Their father was Ronald Megson, a travelling salesman who had worked in repertory theatre and who played the drums in local jazz and dance bands. Their mother, Muriel, was from Salford and had first met Ronald after he had returned to England after being injured with the British Army at the Battle of Dunkirk in 1940. As a child, POrridge had a good relationship with their parents, who did not interfere with their artistic interests.
