Hal Block


Harold Hal Block was an American comedy writer, comedian, producer, songwriter and television personality. Although Block was a highly successful comedy writer for overyears, today he is most often remembered as an original panelist of the television game show Whats My Line who was fired from the show in its third season, reportedly for inappropriate onair behavior. Block is a controversial figure in the history of television, denounced by some, while praised by others as a writer and for contributing to the original success of Whats My Line

Hal Block was born August 2, 1913 in Chicago, Illinois and was raised in the Hyde Park area. According to Gil Fates, producer of the Whats My Line television game show, there were rumors Block had come from a wealthy family.
