Hassan Rouhani

Hassan Rouhani born Hassan Fereydoun onNovember 1948 is the seventh President of Iran, in office since 2013. He is also a former lawmaker, academic and former diplomat. He has been a member of Irans Assembly of Experts since 1999, member of the Expediency Council since 1991, member of the Supreme National Security Council since 1989.

He was born Hassan Fereydoun and later changed his last name to Rouhani, which means spiritual or cleric , or , Tehrani accent also transliterated as Ruhani, Rowhani, and Rohani. It is not clear when he officially changed his last name. He was named as Hassan Fereydoun Rouhani in a list of Majlis representatives onJuly 1981, while photos of his identification card taken around his presidential campaign in 2013 only mention Rouhani as his last name.
