Heinrich Liebe was a highly decorated German Fregattenkapitn who served as a Uboat commander during World War II until transferred to Oberkommando der Marine . He sankships for a total of 187,267160gross register tons160, placing him fourth among top scoring Uboat commanders. He was also a recipient of the Knights Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves . The Knights Cross of the Iron Cross and its higher grade Oak Leaves was awarded to recognise extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership. It was Nazi Germanys highest military decoration at the time of its presentation to Heinrich Liebe.
