Helmut D%C3%B6rner


Helmut Drner was a German WaffenSS officer. He was a recipient of the Knights Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves and Swords, awarded by Nazi Germany to recognise extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership.

Drner was born in 1909. During World War II, he was awarded both classes of the Iron Cross during the Battle of France. Drner was promoted to major and assigned command of II.PolizeiSchtzenRegiment 2. He received the German Cross in Gold in December 1941. In early 1942, Drners battalion participated in Army Group Norths encirclement of the Soviet 2nd Shock Army commanded by Andrey Vlasov.
