Henrik, Prince Consort of Denmark


Henrik, Prince Consort of Denmark , is the husband of Queen Margrethe II. Henrik married Margrethe, then heir presumptive to the Danish throne, at the Naval Church of Copenhagen onJune 1967. The couple have two sons, Crown Prince Frederik and Prince Joachim . Henrik became Prince Consort of Denmark when his wife acceded to the throne of her father, King Frederick IX, onJanuary 1972. In her New Years speech to the Danish people onDecember 2015 Queen Margrethe announced that Prince Henrik would wind down and give up most of his official duties with immediate effect fromJanuary 2016. OnApril 2016 Prince Henrik renounced the title of Prince Consort.

Henrik was born in Talence, Gironde, France. He is the son of Andr de Laborde de Monpezat and his wife, Rene Doursenot , who was previously married firstly civilly in Paris onSeptember 1928 and divorced at the Tribunal Civil Franais de Saigon onSeptember 1940 Louis Leuret . He was raised Catholic.
