Ike Turner

Izear Luster Ike Turner, Jr. was an American musician, bandleader, songwriter, arranger, talent scout, and record producer. An early pioneer of fifties rock and roll, he is most popularly known for his work in the 1960s and 1970s with his thenwife Tina Turner in the Ike amp Tina Turner Revue.

Turner was born in Clarksdale, Mississippi, on November 5, 1931, to Beatrice Cushenberry , a seamstress, and Isaiah Luster Turner, a Baptist minister. The younger of their two children, Turner had an elder sister named Ethel May. Turner believed that he had been named after his father, but discovered his name had been mistakenly registered as Ike Wister Turner when applying for his first passport.
