Isidore Fernandes


Isidore Fernandes is the immediate past Bishop of the Diocese of Allahabad, India. He was appointed as Bishop by Pope John Paul II onMay 1988 and his Episcopal ordination took place onAug 1988, at the hands of Most Rev. Cecil DSa, the then Archbishop of Agra. At the time of his episcopal ordination at the age of 41 years, he was one of the youngest Catholic Bishops of India.

Isidore was born in Mangalore to Casmir and Lucy Fernandes. He recognizes himself as a Mangalorean Catholic. He completed his school studies at St. Marys High School in Shirva, Udupi, Karnataka. He then joined the St. Pauls Minor Seminary in Lucknow and was then sent to the prestigious Papal Seminary in Pune, where he studied philosophy and theology. Isidore was ordained to the priesthood by Most. Rev. William Gomes, the then Bishop of Poona, onOctober 1972.
