Jacob Ford Kent


Jacob Ford Kent was a United States general during the SpanishAmerican War. Kent also served in the Union army during the American Civil War.

Kent was born in 1835 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Rodolphus Kent and Sarah Deily. His GreatGreatGrandfather was Col. Jacob Ford, of Morristown, NJ . He attended the United States Military Academy at West Point. He graduated in 1861 and served in the Union army during the Civil War. He was first appointed to the 3rd U.S. Infantry in 1861 and later transferred to staff duty as an assistant inspector general in 1863. Kent won brevet promotions during the war for gallant and meritorious service at the battles of Maryes Heights, Spotsylvania and Petersburg. He ended the war as a brevet colonel assistant inspector general.
