Jean Baptiste Abbeloos
Jean Baptiste Abbeloos was a Belgian orientalist and Rector of the University of Leuven.
He was bornJanuary 1836, at Gooik, Belgium. He was educated in the seminary of Mechelen, 1849 to 1860. After his ordination to the priesthood,September 1860, he studied at Leuven and Rome, devoting himself especially to Syriac language and literature. He received the degree of Doctor of Theology from the University of Leuven,July 1867, and spent the following winter in London.
