Jessica Chastain is an American actress and film producer. Born in a small town near Sonoma, California and raised in Sacramento, Chastain is reticent to publicly discuss aspects of her troubled childhood. She developed an interest in acting from a young age, and as a teenager, she made her professional stage debut as Juliet in a 1998 production of Romeo and Juliet. She went on to study acting at the Juilliard School, after which she was signed on for a talent holding deal with the television producer John Wells. She was a guest star in several television shows, including ER and Law amp Order Trial by Jury, for much of the 2000s. She also took on roles in the stage productions of The Cherry Orchard in 2004 and Salome in 2006.
