Lady May Abel Smith was a member of the British Royal Family, a greatgranddaughter of Queen Victoria, as well as a greatgreatgreatgranddaughter of King George III and niece to Queen Mary, consort of King George V. Furthermore, she was related on her mothers side to the royal family of the Netherlands.
Princess May was born at Claremont House, near Esher in Surrey, England. Her father was Prince Alexander of Teck , the youngest son of Francis, Duke of Teck, and Princess Mary Adelaide of Cambridge. Her mother was Princess Alexander of Teck , the daughter of Prince Leopold, Duke of Albany, youngest son of Queen Victoria, and his wife, Princess Helena of Waldeck and Pyrmont.
