Louise Marie Adlade de BourbonPenthivre, Duchess of Orlans , was the daughter of Louis Jean Marie de Bourbon, Duke of Penthivre and of Princess Maria Theresa Felicitas of Modena. At the death of her brother, Louis Alexandre de BourbonPenthivre, prince de Lamballe, she became the wealthiest heiress in France prior to the French Revolution. She married Louis Philippe II, Duke of Orlans, the regicide Philippe galit, and was the mother of Frances last king, Louis Philippe I, King of the French. She was sisterinlaw to the princesse de Lamballe, and was the last member of the BourbonPenthivre family.

MarieAdlade was born onMarch 1753 at the Htel de Toulouse, the family residence in Paris since 1712, when her grandfather, LouisAlexandre de Bourbon, comte de Toulouse, bought it from Louis Phlypeaux de La Vrillire. Her mother died in childbirth the following year. Styled Mademoiselle dIvoy initially and, as a young girl, until her marriage, Mademoiselle de Penthivre . The style of Mademoiselle de Penthivre had been previously borne by her sister Marie Louise de Bourbon , who died six months after MarieAdlades birth.
