Mahathir Mohamad
Tun Dato Seri Dr Mahathir bin Mohamad is a Malaysian politician who was the fourth Prime Minister of Malaysia. He held the post foryears from 1981 to 2003, making him Malaysias longestserving Prime Minister. His political career spanned almostyears.
Mahathir was born at his parents home in a poor neighbourhood of Alor Setar, the capital of the state of Kedah, British Malaya, onJuly 1925. Mahathirs birth certificate gives his date of birth asDecember. He was actually born onJuly his biographer Barry Wain explains thatDecember was an arbitrary date. Mahathirs father, Mohamad bin Iskander was from Penang, a Malay with Indian ancestors from the South Indian state of Kerala, while his mother Wan Tempawan, was from Kedah, of Malay descent respectively. An aspect of Mahathirs birth set him apart he was not born into the aristocracy or a prominent religious or political family. Mahathirs father was a school principal whose low socioeconomic status meant his daughters were unable to enroll in secondary school, while Wan Tempawan had only a distant relationship to Kedahs royalty. Both parents had been married previously Mahathir had six halfsiblings and two fullsiblings.
