Mark Knopfler
Mark Freuder Knopfler, OBE is a British singer, songwriter, guitarist, record producer and film score composer. He is best known as the lead guitarist, lead singer and songwriter for the rock band Dire Straits, which he cofounded with his younger brother, David Knopfler, in 1977.
Mark Freuder Knopfler was born onAugust 1949 in Glasgow, Scotland, to an English mother, Louisa Mary, and a HungarianJewish father, Erwin Knopfler. His mother was a teacher and his father was an architect and a chess player whose antifascist sympathies and Jewish parentage forced him to flee from his native Hungary in 1939. Knopfler later described his father as a Marxist agnostic.
