James Maury Jim Henson September 24, 1936 May 16, 1990 was an American puppeteer, artist, cartoonist, inventor, screenwriter, songwriter, musician, actor, film director, and producer. Best known as the creator of the Muppets, Henson was a regular in television series and films from the mid 1950s until his death at age 53. Born in Greenville, Mississippi, and raised in Leland, Mississippi, and Hyattsville, Maryland, 3 Henson began developing puppets while attending high school. While he was a freshman at the University of Maryland, College Park, he created Sam and Friends, a fiveminute sketchcomedy puppet show that appeared on television. After graduating from the University of Maryland with a degree in home economics, he produced coffee advertisements and developed some experimental films. Feeling the need for more creative output, Henson founded Muppets Inc. in 1958 which would later become the Jim Henson Company.

The Frog Prince released on home video as Tales from Muppetland The Frog Prince is a 1971 special directed by Jim Henson. It is a retelling of the classic fairy tale of The Frog Prince featuring Kermit the Frog as the narrator, Kermits nephew Robin as the Frog Prince, Sir Robin, and Sweetums, among others. This television special marked the debut of both Robin and Sweetums to the world of The Muppets. Also, a fullbodied version of Taminella Grinderfall from the Tales of the Tinkerdee and The Land of Tinkerdee pilots appeared here alongside a fullbodied variation of King Goshposh called King Rupert the Second.

The Muppets on Puppets is a 1970 TV special created by Jim Henson. The special was produced in June 1968 at public television station WITFTV in Hershey, Pennsylvania for National Educational Television now PBS. It aired on New Yorks WNET on January 5, 1970 as part of the stations Adventure in the Arts anthology series. Henson and company made three additional specials in color as part of the series at WITFTV. The special is included as a bonus feature on the DVD set The Muppet Show Season Three. This release includes a few audio dropouts due to the video source.
