Honora Nano Nagle founded the Sisters of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Ireland and was a pioneer of Catholic education in Ireland. She was declared venerable in the Roman Catholic Church onOctober 2013 by Pope Francis.
Nano Nagle also known as Lady with the Lantern, was born in Ballygriffen, County Cork, in 1718, the daughter of Garret and Ann Mathews Nagle. The name Honora given at baptism was soon replaced in the family circle by the affectionate diminutive Nano. She was the eldest of six children, the others being Ann, Catherine, Elizabeth, David, and Joseph.
